Meat The Giraffes - NEW VIDEO PREMIERE PARTY

Sorry about the late notice, but I realize some of you aren't on the Faceplace,

I'll be premiering my most ambitious music video to date, tomorrow
night at Union pool. For $8, there are 3 bands playing, with my muses,
The Giraffes headlining. the video is based on the true life cardio
mishaps and subsequent defibrillator malfunctions of singer, Aaron
Lazar.

That starts at 8pm.

It looks like it's going to be a pretty packed house so get there
early, and while I recommend catching the Giraffes live (one of the
best rock shows in NYC and another big inspiration to the video), to
accommodate everyone, we'll be showing the video around 3x during the
evening.

Once before The Giraffes play around 11pm.
Then afterwards at our wrap party - lets say 12:30
and maybe even 1:30 for the fashionable late.

If you come after the show, there's no cover. Just a viewing and a dance party.

If you can't make it, I'll be sending out a link to the video on
Monday. Either way, I definitely recommend reading the story that
inspired the song that inspired the video.

Say, remember music videos? Neither do we. But we like the idea.

That's why when America's most meat-loving vegetarian / spasmodic
projectionist / videoista B.A. Miale approached us one afternoon at
the New College Diner with some story boards and promises of a ride in
a rowboat, we could not resist channeling our inner thespian. We're
pretty sure there's one between the four of us.

Now, we were thinking of a more "foil room" / Flock of Seagulls
performance-clip vibe, but B.A. had much grander things in mind. By
the time she was done with us, we had sailed the murky waters of the
Kings Plaza Marina; decimated a pinata in a frozen, rusty-nail
festooned alley; been soaked with fake (and perhaps some real) blood
and vomit; and put the "sloppy" in some truly sloppy joes. All this,
and we weren't even around for the stop action sequence featuring
He-Man villains and a set made entirely of meat from Key Food, with us
four Giraffes as stop-action figures.

Yes, B.A. took us on a long, demented, hilarious, disgusting journey
that culminates SATURDAY MARCH 7th at Brooklyn's de facto swingers
club UNION POOL with the DEBUT of the MUSIC VIDEO for "PRIME
MOTIVATOR."

Includes screening, outtakes and a LIVE performance from the
Giraffes. Eight buxxx will get you:

The VIDEO DEBUT, and THE GIRAFFES LIVE (pure beef!) at 10.30 pm
I'M IN YOU (putting the 'mental' in instrumental) at 9.30 pm
MOON RABBITS (Brooklyn's premiere potty-mouths) at 8.30 pm

And a patio filled with young, wide-eyed, fresh-faced new arrivals,
eager to learn all about New York.

Over the past few years, I've been hired to do visuals for holiday-themed concerts which has left me with an ARSENAL of Decembery video clips.

Nostalgic ambience is pretty much the best part of this season (After presents of course). So what better way to create that fuzzy feeling than with video samples of images vaguely stapled to your subconscious at this point?

Hello,

I usually don't use this space as a forum to elucidate my own political opinions (at least not at length), but on the eve of Election Day, I am compelled to do so now.

Dante said that the hottest place in Hell is reserved for those who in time of crisis remain neutral, so I will now say my piece about the choice we have tomorrow at the voting booths.

We all know America is in bad, bad shape. Today our once-loved country enjoys its lowest standing in the world community to date. We are at war, our economy has tanked, our resources are waning and our civil rights are under constant attack from a government run by theocratic bullies.

The presidential administration of the last eight years has embraced and freely inflicted torture techniques (on both the guilty and the innocent) that flagrantly defy international law, human rights and basic decency -- and while doing so, has systematically immunized itself from legal accountability.

The top al Qaeda leaders who orchestrated the 9/11 attacks of seven years ago are still at large and gaining strength, while our military is stretched to the breaking point in Iraq, where we have killed 93,000 of its civilians since 2003 in the name of "Operation Iraqi Freedom". Meanwhile, the country's infra-structure is still in shambles and in-fighting and sectarian violence continues unabated there.

Bush-Cheney have defamed the constitution, tapped our phones without warrants, detained and tortured anyone deemed suspicious without due process and essentially given themselves a blank check to perpetrate illegal and amoral actions under the bogus banner of Homeland Security.

Speaking of Homeland Security, ask the city of New Orleans how secure they feel at home.

This administration has tirelessly fought against gay rights, tried to overturn Roe Vs Wade, and has promoted an insidious anti-intellectualism that would have our children taught the crackpot junk science of "Intelligent Design" in public schools.

And now we find ourselves in a financial shitstorm worse than anything any American has seen since the late 1920s.

It leads one to wonder, could it get any worse?

I would daresay that it could indeed get worse, much worse.

Tomorrow we will elect a brand new president for our country. And we have a chance to at least begin to turn things around -- and to my thinking, the only realistic choice is Barack Obama.

John McCain is surely a decent man at heart. And the sacrifices he made for America as a POW are enormous and undoubtedly heroic. But he is unqualified to run this country, much less lead it out of the deep quagmire it is in.

Among the reasons why is the fact that McCain has walked in lockstep with Bush-Cheney on 95% of their policy-making of the last eight years. Hardly an agent of change.

Employing the same evil masterminds who smeared his good name in the 2000 election, McCain has run a shamelessly rabble-rousing and disgraceful campaign this year, easily marking a historical nadir. Short on substance, McCain's message is about instilling racism, fear and xenophobia into the American people. As you've seen in countless Youtube videos taken at campaign rallies, McCain and his strategists have deliberately stoked the most bigoted and vile tendencies of its constituency, even standing mutely by as talk of assassination gets carelessly bandied about.

Perhaps McCain's biggest disqualifier is his choice of running mate, Sarah Palin. Potentially the next president of the United States, this proudly ignorant woman believes creationism should be taught in schools, while sex education should be banished. She is an adherent of the kind of fanatical religious fundamentalism that lives just a hair's breadth way from the Islamic extremism we all condemn.

As we have seen in the few interviews she granted before she was swiftly muzzled by her advisers, Palin possesses only the scantest and most infantile understanding of the world (she's only once traveled outside the USA); it's no coincidence that her handlers have since kept her under lock and key -- she is worse than embarrassing; she's terrifyingly unqualified. And so for the first time in US history, a would-be president has not granted a single press conference.

Consider this: McCain's first important -- no, crucial -- decision as a potential United States president was Sarah Palin. It must be his last.

Some would see Barack Obama as merely the lesser of two evils in this election, and at the very least that is true. Barack Obama should not be viewed as a knight in shining armor, much less a messiah or celestial entity. But he is nonetheless the only sensible option tomorrow.

Obama is an extremely capable and highly intelligent man who stands for goodness and equality. A true American success story, he embodies all the promise and opportunity this country has to offer and as such, he has been the most transformtive political figure to come down the pike in generations.

Obama has the kind of temperament that has been missing from the White House for a long time and desperately needs to be restored. He is strong, principled, patient, calm, thoughtful, open and decent. After eight years of rashness, thuggery and boastful, swaggering ignorance, don't you think these qualities would make a refreshing change?

He has carefully chosen as running mate an experienced and decent statesman in Joe Biden, and clearly understands the importance of collaborative leadership, unlike McCain, whose bizarre and indefensible choice of VP can only be called hasty, rash and shockingly thoughtless.

If elected president, Obama will be tested mightily, as he stands to inherit Bush's legacy: two disastrous wars in progress, un-stemmed economic hemorrhaging and the seething contempt of many of our neighbors. There's no way Obama or anyone else can put out these fires in one term, but I believe he can at least get this ship moving in a straight line again.

Perhaps most importantly, Obama also has the ability to unite. You've witnessed the seismic changes in the political landscape these last few weeks: lifelong Republicans have declared their support for him; white folks who never thought they would vote for a black man (much less ever have the chance to) are overcoming their bigotry. An Obama presidency would be a devastating blow to the culture wars and long-festering racism in America; it would put an awful lot of rottenness behind us.

Watching this man's unlikely ascendancy these last few months has been terribly encouraging, inspirational and exciting -- and I want to see it continue. I beg you all to get out and vote tomorrow, and to vote for Barack Obama. I believe it is the only sensible option.

Guiliani is a jerk. Palin I actually want to like. I have a vagina and I’m a sucker for underdogs finding themselves in places they never dreamed. But it amazes me how these folks are missing the big picture. Mocking Obama for his enlightened sense of politics? She needs to realize that If it wasn’t for the Obama vibe of new ideas and different, smarter and more human approaches to everything that’s going on in the world, she would be no where near that podium. That’s right. Even McCain caught Obama fever as evident in his choice for VP.

And speaking of McCain, I can’t say I dislike him as a person. I think after 8 years of Bush, it’s hard to not figure that even the worst case scenario is better than what we’ve been dealing with.

I have enormous respect for POWs (in case you haven’t heard, McCain is one as well). My Grandpa Pete was one. I even have his POW pin as a keepsake that provides constant inspiration to how much of a Bad Ass he was. If he wasn’t such a Bad Ass, I wouldn’t exist.

He fought in World War II. Got captured by the Germans. Escaped before he even hit his cell. Took some folks with him. And then got caught again. They starved and tortured him, (while telling the story he never failed to mention how good the svelt him looked whilst being starved) But his spirit never broke. He actually made friends with one of the German guards, Heiny (yup, Grandpa even bestowed his foe with a cutesy nickname) because he knew this whole scenario wasn’t personal. Although fate put them on opposing sides they shared a universal sense of humor. Grandpa respected that so much, he purposely didn’t escape on Heiney’s shift when he made a renegade spree for freedom the second and final time.

See, there’s no point in being a Bad Ass if you don’t have a good brain and a good vibe to go along with it. Otherwise you’re just a douche.

My dead grandpa is a better candidate for president then John McCain because he learned WAR IS FUCKING STUPID.

How is it that with all the progress humanity as a whole has made-- with information and science and technology ---that a great portion of the population thinks maybe everyone from the Neanderthals to the Nazis were onto something with this whole gratuitous violence thing?

In laments terms - When you got bullied in kindergarten, did your parents run over to the bully’s house with brass knuckles, nunchucks and the like and proceed to beat his family to a bloody pulp?

That is what the republicans are making themselves out to be. All while mocking the parents whose kid also got bullied, but decided to sit down with the bully’s family and see where the kids coming from, then exploring sensible options to prevent further bullying down the road. Then as they’re leaving the bully’s house, they notice the bloody massacre next door because the republicans had the wrong address.

I know that’s not the most cerebral analogy. I was just trying to think of one of life’s earliest examples in the simple concept of learning how to be a good person --don’t use violence. You don’t have to exactly “turn the other cheek” but WORK IT OUT.

Then come other basic lessons in life. Treat everyone equal. Even if they’re gay. Or not loaded. Don’t torture animals. Don’t shit all over the planet. DO YOUR HOMEWORK and don’t listen to everything you’re friends say--you may look like an ass what you regurgitate their asinine rhetoric.

Watching the Republican national convention, I can’t help to be reminded of the reoccurring angry mob on The Simpsons. Especially, the Treehouse of Horrors with this nugget:

“Abortions for all! [BOO]
Very well, Abortions for none! [BOO]
Abortions for some, miniature American flags for others! [YAY]”

Guiliani mentions 9/11 in one breathe (ok, 37 breathes) then in the next spews his love for the war in iraq. Everyone cheers. USA! USA!

IRAQ DIDN’T CAUSE 9/11! I know it. You know it (I hope). Do you know how many people STILL have no idea? This can’t go on. It’s embarrassing.

Ok, I’m getting angry and I don’t want to fall asleep this way. So let me shift my attention to what has given me countless inspiration the last year and a half.

In 2002, myself and billions of other people worldwide took to the streets to take part in earth’s largest protest in the history of mankind against the war in Iraq. And it didn’t do shit. I became jaded. Everyone became jaded. Jaded became the cool thing to be. So it got old.

A few years ago, I decided to declare jihad on the jaded. I wanted to believe in my dreams again. I stopped blaming everything else “holding me back” from achieving those dreams and began taking responsibility for my actions. And, changing my actions to achieve these dreams. Instead of complaining that shit sucks, taking that energy to do my part helping shit not suck so bad. Taking a more enlightened approach from all my past experiences, and those of my Bad Ass family. Working with what I’ve got to be the best that I can be – and I’m not there yet but am a hell of a lot closer now that the jaded part of me is merely a fraction of my person.

When Obama first came into my life, he was an enigma. Now he’s a vibe. Fuck it, he’s a heightened level of consciousness. He’s taken the idea of making shit not suck so bad to gigantic proportions and he’s just getting started. And I feel like he’s a part of me. Yeah, I’m an artist, he’s a politician. Black/white, dude/dame--It’s all about vibe. I’ve noticed people around me these days are soaring in every direction. Working their asses off to be better versions of themselves in all contexts and achieving things on levels the jaded versions of themselves wouldn’t even consider. It’s Obamarama. And yeah, he’s so on point with foreign policy and healthcare and equality and the environment and oil and understanding the perspectives of those different from him. There’s so much more to say why he’s the only sensible option at this point in time, but I’m not a political journalist. (DO YOUR HOMEWORK!) This is personal. (And I’m working full time this week so I’ll wrap it up. )

Republicans are so adamant about repeating the war hero thing over and over again. Like I said, I love our soldiers –some very, very personally and I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if I ever lost those individuals.

But ESPECIALLY after witnessing and experiencing the bloodshed and complete disregard for human life firsthand, how can you possibly even entertain the thought that violence is the answer?

I honestly think it might have something to do with post-traumatic stress disorder. But don’t worry Johnny. Obama’s looking out for veterans like you.

Last night between 1 & 2 AM, I listened to a helicopter circle my apartment building. It kind of freaked me out being my apartment is on the ground level, and any renegade they may be chasing could easily find their way into my backyard and subsequently any of my windows.

It was the total opposite feeling of what I normally associate with helicopters. Which is this awesome, bouncy XTC track that I can barely contain myself listening to whenever it shuffles up on my pod.

I im'd a friend about my concerns and he thinks the cops must have gotten a new toy. He promotes shows at a club in the hood and said the helicopter showed up after a freakin bar fight.

Either that or its 50 cent's reality show they've been filming on my block all summer. I'm trying to figure out a way to have fun with this. Stay tuned.

I'm thinking there's a resemblance between the newborn giraffes and a new project you're working on, Virgo. Its initial splash into the world may be a bit rocky and fraught with dicey challenges. But I'm here to say that if you're a vigilant caretaker in the early going, it *will* grow to maturity.

2sj redux - Volume 2 - Its an old Jedi Mindtrick

The J's wrote a song for every awesome Star Wars movie made. Those 2 are Irresistible Force & Mindtrick for which I sampled a few clips from Star Wars and Jedi (shhhhhhh...don't tell Lucas.)

My favorite part of the clip below happens at 1:22. J Guevara flys off the stage at the moment the death star explodes behind him. What the video fails to show is he then proceeded to crowd surf all the way to the soundboard and back.
