Girlz in the hood asked me to provide the visual stimulation this Saturday at their GO! For the Cure Tour show benefiting women's cancer research @ NYC's Callen-Lorde health center.
My friends Billy & Brendan Ryan (formerly of the Bogmen) have been playing with the Femme-tastic Gordan Gano for years. They've finally decided to make it official and record an album, even play a few shows. This makes me very happy, two of my favorite bands coming together like this - it's like fucking macaroni & cheese.
Give 'em a listen. Especially "Under The Sun". But its one of those songs that just builds and builds so listen the whole way through. It might make you cry. In a good way.
Kinda been on repeat lately, even when I'm not listening to it. Look how happy...
OK, now read the lyrics:
I'm standing in the road A man without a home My friends all pass me by and never say a word I'm feeling so alone And all the things I've known Just seem to disappear and never reappear
I feel the rain and cold My clothes have all been sold And all my shouts for help just seem to go unheard I'm a just a lonely man Won't someone lend a hand Don't leave me on my own just standing in the road
There's no way they wrote those lyrics without being in a dark, dark place. But look how happy.
The moral of the story is...
a. I shouldn't blog at 5am after drinking for free all night.
b. Next time you want to shit on someone because you feel like shit, why don't you just write that shit down instead and turn it into good shit?
Also, I've seen to have broke 2 tvs (how punk rock) in one week -- the one on my homepage, and the one in my living room. If anybody knows a thing or 5 about flash & dreamweaver, hit me up. Evidently, I pretend to know a lot more than i do.
I don't really care about the one in my living room. The tv links/projector combo seems to be working out nicely.
I've been doing a lot with my hands recently. It's a combination of an influx of free art supplies from awesome awesome folks and the realization that creating in any visual medium only compliments my video stuff. And vice versa. I'm painting and collaging. Also, I find myself taking more pictures, jotting more things down in my notebook, appreciating other peoples pieces (OPP) more. Yesterday, I sat on the subway gazing at a broken window for a half hour.
The more you make stuff, the more you wanna make stuff. (DUH.)
