SXSW who's going? Videophile seeks muses

I decided last night in a motivational haze that it would be a good idea to do a renegade VeeJay tour though Austin next month.

Trying to spend as little scratch as possible, so let me introduce you to my alterego - BARTERELLA.

I will barter your band or promotional organization:

A VeeJay set during your showcase in exchange for a floor to sleep on.

and/or

In exchange for a ride from NYC, A rockumentary of the trials and tribulations of a band on the road to sxsw.

Please pass this on to anyone you know who's heading south next month!

xoxo

vision quest

why did I think I think this was going to work?

I also want to say thanks to everyone that came out last Tuebsday: LauRenn, Frost, Davey, Lola, Jordan, Sinopoli, Punk ass, Lung, Jax, Steve, The Bowery Boys, Rich, Sharky...( I shouldn't have even started this list because I know I'm gonna forget someone...) and all the new faces as well. These nights are only as good as the audience that represents and you guys kicked ass. My favorite:

GARBAGE DAY!!

Also thanks for everyone who's spreading the word: Nonsense, FreeNYC.net, gothamist.com ...

One last thing - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BROTHA FROM ANOTHA MOTHA-- VIC THRILL!!!

Nerd! Nerd! Nerd! Nerd! Nerd!

I hate wearing glasses. I don't care if I look like a nerd (ok, a little) but I just can't stand shit on my face. Unfortunately, my contact lenses have malfunctioned causing me to rock the specs this past week. I'm sporting a pair of frames that I've stepped on, rolled over, crushed in my bag and then some in the 5 years I've had them. I don't think they've ever even seen the inside of a case. `I think it's safe to say I need a new pair.

But I hate glasses! Not Anymore...

I just discovered this optical gold mine which has changed my attitude.

And I'm debating between:

Inspiration 5: Assignment David Lee Roth

Last Tuebsday we had a RothBlock. Not the Van Halen stuff, although Hot For Teacher is definitely on my top ten vids of all time. But when he went solo, he brought the music video medium to all new levels.

My older brother Tommy and I made used to make mixes of our favorite videos on VHS. I remember one had A View To A Kill (Bon, Simon Le Bon) The Goonie videos part 1 & 2 (but 2 was before 1 so we'd have to fast forward over 2, watch 1, rewind 1 & 2 then watch 2. Speaking of which I'm glad someone bought the whole sequel concept back and brought it to another level like "Trapped in the closet but thats another Blog for another time) and this David Lee Roth gem:

Comedy and Rock having a total chocolate and peanut butter moment. That blew my mind.

Then there was Yankee Rose. At this point in my life, I was an 11 year old Catholic School girl. This may have been my sexual awakening although I recall not being attracted to him. (I liked him for his mind.) But I could never get enough of this video. Last week I found myself reciting the whole intro part word for word. It's funny what stays stapled to your subconscious.

Stupid boys I dig shouldn't call me ALL the time...

It makes me more productive.

This is what I did last night. Hopefully the first of many promo spots to come.

Does anybody else switch into massively motivated mode when someone else brings you down?

I'm all like "I'll show him. I'm gonna go to the gym, and clean my apartment, and work on that video I haven't touched in a month and and and...so when he sees that video-making, clean apartment having, gym-going-to girl he blew off, he'll be sorry. Oh yes he will."

Oh well.

Next.
