BAMiAM.tv world premiere video...
This time around, instead of just doing a typical music video, I wanted to create something with a bigger picture involved...
"Golden Bulletproof Parachute" by Knock 'em Alive
(or watch the "HD" version here)
The whole Gay Marriage issue pisses me off. And the rhetoric used by the conservatives pushing the ban is assanine. I don't have to go into the reasoning- everyone who reads this that I know of (even the republicans) aren't bigots. If you are, guess what? Black people aren't slaves. Women vote. Gay folks should bask in any an all rights as straight folks (and closeted gay folks.)
But Its something I feel strongly about and it affects friends and family who are very dear to me. Including my friend Johnny, aka Knock 'Em Alive who asked me to do a music video for him. I offered a few concepts per usual, but the one I really pushed was the one he was into as well - a hybrid music video/PSA.
The original concept was a lot more controversial (red hot bigot on bigot action). But then I realized anyone can do "2 girls one cup". I thought it was more important to make people think/laugh then shock/disgust them. (Although I'm sure I'll be the 2nd Miale in the past 6 months to get death threats from the religious right on youtube - and I can't wait!!)
I must give a massive THANKs to all the talent. Choreographer extraordinaire, Kelldog and the Bigot Bigot dance Company - Lung, PunkAss, Cerney, & MC Aaron. We shot this on a 40-degree blustery day in March- not exactly shirtless weather. But they were troopers and probably enjoyed themselves a bit too much in the given circumstances. I'll let you guess who's who in the video.
This piece is also special to me because for the first time I incorporated live video mixing (read: got wicked keytarded) into the video. I also hand-painted all the masks. I mention this because it's really easy to burn out when editing and taking a step away from the laptop to explore other mediums is very refreshing, and necessary to my own sanity.
Enjoy it and if you believe in the cause, PLEASE pass it around!

I love the song and the video, way to go y'all! I never know who of my friends is going to inspire on any given day and today it's you BA! Let's not forget Lil' Jon.
That was fantastic BA. In our ADHD society, important issues become out of fashion as it were. "Oh gay marriage? That's so 2007, its not going to play well"
Also we are in a political time where majorly important issues are just not talked about by any politicians, they aren't on anyone's agenda. It seem's as thought there's a tiny four point menu of issues that each party will talk about this year. Totally patronizing us and more importantly, those issues don't get addressed.
So its cool when someone does "a psa" that makes the topic fresh. I liked that all you did was quote what these powerful people said.
The dancing and drawing were dope too.
This week's California success was mainly due to this video I hear.
I love it!
