YOUTUBE TUESDAYS AT CYN LOUNGE
Presenting The First Of It's Kind All-Request Video Night!
Brooklyn, NY, February 5th, 2008
Every week, VJ BAMiAM hosts YouTube Tuesdays at Cyn Lounge, a 6-hour, NO COVER laugh-riot where patrons request their favorite viral and music videos shown on the big screen.
It started quite by accident in December 2007. Video artist BAMiAM (aka B.A. Miale), was premiering her latest music video at cozy dive bar, Cyn Lounge. The thing is, the video was only 2:30 long. With a packed bar and her projector hooked up, she felt the need to continue providing the eye-candy and began playing random videos off YouTube. What happened next is a beautiful thing. People began yelling out requests – some were hilarious comedy shorts and animations. Many were music videos you rarely even see on VH1 Classic.
"Gino The Guinea!"
"James Brown on Wheel Of Fortune!"
"The Replacements' Bastards Of Young!"
"Fat kid falls and gets hurt!"
Six hours later, the bar was still packed—choc full of uproarious laughter. Folks were even dancing around and shouting along to music videos.
"It occurred to me that most of these clips are usually watched alone, confined within the walls of a cubicle," says B.A. "These videos are much more entertaining in good company, when your boss isn't lurking around the corner… and the cheap drinks don't hurt either"
In the month she's been hosting YouTube Tuesdays, She already has regulars that come every week along with a steady stream of new faces.
"I love how interactive the night is. Especially in Williamsburg—where bars frequently rock the segregated high school cafeteria mentality-- strangers talk to each other, often shouting across the bar. Local directors and bands come in and show off their own stuff. It has this crazy communal experience I never anticipated. Plus, it's great for us cable-impaired".
Cyn Lounge is located at 216 Bedford Ave at n5th St in Williamsburg. Requests start at 10pm.
