Inspiration 5: Assignment David Lee Roth
Last Tuebsday we had a RothBlock. Not the Van Halen stuff, although Hot For Teacher is definitely on my top ten vids of all time. But when he went solo, he brought the music video medium to all new levels.
My older brother Tommy and I made used to make mixes of our favorite videos on VHS. I remember one had A View To A Kill (Bon, Simon Le Bon) The Goonie videos part 1 & 2 (but 2 was before 1 so we'd have to fast forward over 2, watch 1, rewind 1 & 2 then watch 2. Speaking of which I'm glad someone bought the whole sequel concept back and brought it to another level like "Trapped in the closet but thats another Blog for another time) and this David Lee Roth gem:
Comedy and Rock having a total chocolate and peanut butter moment. That blew my mind.
Then there was Yankee Rose. At this point in my life, I was an 11 year old Catholic School girl. This may have been my sexual awakening although I recall not being attracted to him. (I liked him for his mind.) But I could never get enough of this video. Last week I found myself reciting the whole intro part word for word. It's funny what stays stapled to your subconscious.
