tell all your rich friends.

Tomorrow (Friday), I'll be VJing for BOTH Vic Thrill & Saturn Missile AND The BOGMEN (woo-hoo!) out at Stephen's Talkhouse in Amagansette, Strong Island.

Although I'm so excited right now, I can barely hold my keytar.

I spend weeks and months on some videos--- planning specific details, coordinating with musicians and a ton of other folks involved, blah blah blah. But the one video that has gotten me more notoriety then what seems like all my other projects combined is one that took me about a day to do. I shot it in about 1/2 hour. Cut it in about 6 hours total.

And today it was featured on PITCHFORK.

Also, Anyone speak German?

And after all this hoopla, I bet your dying to know what the star, Bunny, thinks of her debut?

"Why can't you hear me singing?"

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TURK!

I believe the children are our future...

Especially this kid.

I've been wanting to a video with her since i met her over 2 years ago. She was three at the time. I was DJing in the park, jumping up and down--dancing around like an idiot, and this cutie walks right up to me with her arms out wanting to get in on the fun.

We've been friends since. This past spring, I was DJing in the park again, and played her favorite Guided By Voices song, "Glad Girls". We jumped around and shouted the words at the top of our lungs like we always do. For the next 2 hours, she asked me every 5 minutes to play Glad Girls again.

Finally she says "B.A, I have to go home now." with a sad look on her face.

I get on the mic and say "Ok, I'm anal about not playing the same band twice in one night, let alone the same song. But when a 4-year-old is requesting Guided By Voices, I feel like I'd be doing the universe a great disservice not to play it".

I cue up Glad Girls, hand Bunny the mic and she proceeds to Karaoke the song over the track. She got pretty far too, until she realized over 200 sets of eyes were gazing at her with ear to ear smiles.

But I digress. A few months ago, her extraordinarily talented mom(who of course took the above photo) gave her a new hairdu, which further prompted me to think I have to do a video with her. Then this Les Savy Fav contest popped up and everything just fell into place.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the fabulous Bunny performing "The Equestrian" by Les Savy Fav...

Go rate it! (only if you think it rocks, of course)

On the subject of Ghostland Observatory

I haven't seen moves like that since Jagger. Or maybe Prince.

I was kinda blown away at their show at McCarren on Sunday. Here's some random video from youtube from a sxsw gig.

See what I mean?

btw - Does everybody know about them except for me? I've heard the name over and over again, but never investigated. See, the web is great for discovering new music, yet at the same time, it becomes so saturated with hype that you get sick of reading about everything before you even hear it.

The same thing with living in a city where every other person is in a band. I feel most people don't give shit a chance anymore-- they just assume it sucks. And I'll admit, I've been guilty of that in the past but I've been blown away one too many times not to evolve out of that.

sorry for the delay - NASHVILLE con't

Friday:
We played a show at Club Roar, this psychedelic artist space, playing with Unicorn- a band of local notable musicians (including our host).

The night went over extremely well. So many friendly folks were constantly approaching. I even saw a familiar face- Eve of Williamsburg Warrior fame. Its one of those situations where we never got to hang personally, but know all the same people from “old Williamsburg”.—she even used to bug out at the Right Bank with us. I had no idea she left. But it turns out she’s living on a farm on the coast of Georgia. She actually drove 2 1/2 hours to see the gig, and upon seeing each other, we both started gushing how great it is down here and we have to get everyone to move south to start our own communes where artists can afford to live.
But it’s not like we’re even pioneers. Upon spending a few days in Nashville, I learned how many old New Yorkers have relocated there.. like 60s and 70s early punk scene New Yorkers.
The night was great, played a good show, made a ton of new friends.

Saturday:
We spent the early afternoon recovering from the previous night. Katie made us a delicious feast. We had an in store at Grimey’s New and PreLoved Music that day. Unfortunately we made it there a little late and I didn’t realize I didn’t have a screen to project on. So Vic did the set without me, I was a little disappointed, but it only made me push and push to make sure we play a third show down. Vic went over great.

That night we went out to dinner and then decided to have a mellow ridiculous video night. Joe, Marc’s Brother (that’s their band’s name too) brought over R. Kelly’s “Trapped in the Closet – Chapters 1-5” on DVD. Now I’ve seen pieces on line and on youtube, but anyone with a brain is missing out on how funny this is unless they see the commentary.

You don’t just hear Kelly, you see him watching it and gushing over the genius of his hip-hopera. Not only does he call out EVERY cliffhanger, numerous times, he also constantly reiterates what’s constantly being spoon fed to you.

Sunday:
We went pool party hopping. The first was at some dude who’s a roadie for Rush’s house, but he was out of town. I spend some time shooting Vic & Grimey exchange tour stories, but it got too hot, so I jumped in the pool. I know, I’m a terrible rockumentarian.

Next we went over to Dan Tyler’s house who we met at Friday’s show. Dan is another songwriter down there and an excellent host.

I shot a video.

After we left, Vic, Marc and Myself watched the meteor shower.

Monday we drove to the airport, were presented with a standby option, said fuck it, we’re staying and picked up another gig on the way back from the airport.

Tuesday we spend the day seeing nashville. When folks were talking about Music Row, I automatically assume something that looks like Madison Ave. Nope. It looks like any given suburban street but every house has a recording studio sign on the front lawn. Then we visited Joe's recording studio which I fell in love with>

Tuesday night we rocked that gig. I always know it’s going to be a good show when as soon as people see the keytar, they start flipping out. Maybe it’s all relative because it makes me feel really good about a crowd.

After the show, we spent a few hours of QT with Joe, Marc’s Brother (and Hags) back at the Pisapia compound. Ever meet some peeps and feel you’ve known them for years and years? These guys are amazing and I’m very happy they’re a part of my life now.

Went to bed around 4 then tried to catch a good 2 hours of sleep before our flight back to New York. No dice,

Wednesday morning in my drunk-over (that horrible state between your drunk and hangover that you’re supposed to sleep through for a reason) we went to Nashville airport where I engulfed an egg and cheese bagel. Only the egg was square and came from a prepackaged aluminum wrapper.

Midflight I puked. Got back to New York and spent the next 3 days keeled over in pain from what I’m thinking was quasi food poisoning. Either that or it was my body physically rejecting New York.

Ok, I won’t start because I know some folks get insulted when I get down on NYC. So I’ll just focus on how awesome Nashville is. Such a mecca. Everybody’s a musician, has some crazy musically historic lineage or both. (Our host Katie’s dad penned “I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing” and this sweet jam among others)
Most importantly, they’re soooooooooooooooo supportive and nurturing. People who I met for 5 minutes were encouraging me to follow my dreams or wanting to introduce me to people they think could help. Plus. I don’t think we ever got thanked so much for playing a show.

I once again have to thank Marc and Katie (and little Daisy Rocket) for not only being hosts, tour guides, cooks, promoters, chauffeurs, spiritual advisors…but for introducing us to this wonderful city and artistic community. We’ll be back before the year is done.
