more proof that I'm my mother's daughter & then some
After my recovery period from halloween (and physical therapy) I ventured out Friday to catch one of my favorite bands of all time, The Sonics, at Warsaw. For those not in the know, these guys were around in the mid 60s. You've probably heard brooklyn DJ favorite tracks like "Psycho", "The Witch" and my personal favorite, "Shot down", not to mention "Have Love, Will Travel" which is in some car commercial. Rolling Stone has a decent article here.
Now I realize I have to appreciate the fact that once again, this was a band I never thought I'd see live being they played their last show 10 years before I was born. Plus, they never even played NYC before. The crowd was a mix of NYC rockers... and people from all over the world who came for this momentous occasion. From Sweden to Japan. It was crazy.
My biggest qualm with the show was that during "Shot Down" the throaty-loose-your-shit "WOOOOOOOOOWWWW!!!!!!'s" were subpar- or even missing. At first I dismissed it to age. I mean, come on, these guys are probably in their 60s. BUt then during "The Witch" the throaty-loose-your-shit "WOOOOOOOOOWWWW!!!!!!'s" were in full force.
Oh well. Overall, it was a fun show.
Saturday, I had my cousin's wedding out in Long Island and realized my mom knows all the words to "You Shook Me All Night Long". I also heard "Sexyback" for the first time (no shit) and I'm still not sure what the big fucking deal is.
Anyhoooo... another "Everyday is Halloween" side note: In between the church and reception, we hung at my parents house watching old 8mm movies my mom just had cleaned up and transferred to DVD. There was one clip where I was like 4 or 5 and pracing around in a Wonder Woman costume.
Me: "Oh, I don't remember being Wonder Woman for Halloween"
Mom: "That's because this is Christmas"
I was about to argue, then I saw the Christmas Tree and realized she was right.
On an additional sidenote: I think I'm gonna bring Underoo's back.
And speaking of nothing I was just talking about. Remember this sweet jam?
It popped into my head this weekend and I've been listening to it all morning. What happened to these guys?
